Growth is the evidence of life. We are constantly challenged to change, learn and grow. The inquisitiveness in an infant is an evidence to this nature. Watching the kids are always refreshing because, the active curiosity and learning infuses so much life into them. The urge to know, conquers the fear of the unknown, and because kids do not have ego, they do not care about the failures. As we grow, we start to lose these traits. And when we get to the middle ages, some of us suddenly start to believe that everything around us will remain constant and we can continue the rest of the life with whatever we already know or have experience of.Yes, some of the people in their early 40s think that they can spend their life comfortably with the growth they have attained until this far. It is true that a 40-year-old adult cannot have the same level of inquisitiveness as an infant. However, not exploring what is required for future living and not learning them is not an option. Stagnation will only make us less competent to adapt ourselves to the changes – society, environment, technology, legislation and so on.It is therefore imperative to dedicate sometime in our busy schedule to continue learning to become a better person. We stop growing the day we stop learning. This learning is a continuous process. At a broad level it be divided into four major stages, as below. The first stage is to be aware of our self – strengths, aspirations, inhibitions and weakness. To do a fruitful self-assessment, it is important to keep ourselves updated with the changes happening around us and to evaluate our preparedness to face the challenges. This first stage is the most difficult stage, as it requires a lot of motivation and courage. The subsequent steps are conscious efforts to learn and perfect the skill, identified as gaps in the first stage.Keep coming back to this space. We will be updating this space with various tools – self-assessment questionnaires, instructions manual, microlearning presentations to help you in this process.Greetings. You have taken the first step to become a better person.

In the book Blitzscaling, the author has cited Marshall Goldsmith’s – “What got you here, won’t get you there”. It would be injustice to apply this quote only for managing business growth, the main subject of the book. The wisdom conveyed can be applied to every aspect of personal life – education, sports, fitness, family and career. Today, a considerable share of the workforce is in the age group 30 to 45 years, referred to as ‘mid-career’. Many in this group face ‘uninspiring’ growth prospects in the existing institution and lack of alternate career opportunities. “What got your here” – You might have reached the current level, with specific set of skills. These skills might have helped you to progress in a fast-track. It is quite possible that your are still a leader in those areas. “Won’t get you there” – However, you may notice that often, your supervisor do not have the same set of skills or the same level of expertise in those skills as you. This clearly suggests that your supervisor is performing successfully at a higher level in the institution, but with a different set of skills. If you are aspiring to grow, you will have to demonstrate that you either possess those skills or had earned the confidence of the management that you can develop these skills quickly. In other words, the professional skills and personal virtues that helped you to grow until now, may not have the ammunition to propel you further. Once you realize and accept this fact, the next step is to set a clear goal, make a fair assessment of the void in skills, and make efforts to fill them.Kickstart your journey now, to get what will get you there.
